Clawhammer Banjo 2
CLAWHAMMER BANJO 2: with David Brooks
With roots in Africa as well the American South, clawhammer style banjo combines rhythm and melody to create a sound perfect for the back porch or for playing in a string band. This class is intended for students who have completed Clawhammer 1 and reached the point in their banjo journey where they wish to build on their foundational skills. Experienced beginners who are comfortable with the right-hand clawhammer stroke and with easy chord changes are also welcome.
This class will provide instruction with tabs for new, easy-to-play tunes to expand your clawhammer tune list. Nothing keeps your banjo batteries charged like learning new tunes and new licks that often come with them. Tunes may be old-time, folk songs, modern singer-songwriter, etc., depending on the interests of those in the class. We will focus on open-G tuning (gDGBD) initially, but we may also explore other common tunings, depending on the interests of those in the class.
We will explore how to enhance your melodic clawhammer playing by adding:
- Drop thumb
- More efficient fretting patterns, etc.
Open to everyone ages, 11 and up.
