Mike Schroeder, Mandolin

Mike is well respected as a Bluegrass, Celtic and classical mandolin player based in
Louisville, Kentucky. He has performed with the Louisville Orchestra, Knoxville
Symphony Orchestra and Kentucky Opera. He founded the Louisville Mandolin
Orchestra and is a life member and past president of the Classical Mandolin Society of
America. He is a June Appal Grammy nominated recording artist for his work with the
Buzzard Rock String Band on I’ve Got The Blues for My Kentucky Home and has served
as a guest-artist for the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts program. Mike’s original
works have been included in the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Songwriter

Recently, Mike performed at the University of Louisville’s New Music Festival in the
American Premiere of the Black Swan by Kurt Isaacson, 2009 winner of the Robert Abell
Young Composition Contest for new chamber music. Mike’s work with the Bluegrass
band Hog Operation is currently being broadcast across PBS stations as part of Kentucky
Educational Television’s concert series Jubliee.
