Learn the basics from the comfort of your own home/piano! This course will provide an introduction to the skills needed to accompany yourself or play piano with others — from finding notes and chords on the piano, to playing common chord progressions and learning basic accompaniment patterns. The course is appropriate for beginners looking to get started or intermediate players who would like to learn more about playing accompaniments. Participants will need their own electric or acoustic piano for this play-along online course. The material used will span a variety of genres to demonstrate different types of piano accompaniment.

Although some sheet music may be provided, no music reading is required. Most learning will be through echoing and playing along with the instructor in the moment, with videos provided for practice purposes. Participants will be muted during instruction so they can play along with the instructor and will be offered opportunities to play for the group at various times during class. By the end of the course, you will be able to play common chord progressions in several keys with varying accompaniment patterns.
