This class will meet in person on Tuesdays from 4:30 - 5:30 pm on April 11, 18, 25, and May 2.
Location: Chapel St Philip Neri, 236 Woodbine St, Louisville, KY 40208.
This class will focus on Adowa, a complex rhythm from the Akan people of Ghana. If there is time, we will also learn a few songs, singing in the most common language in Ghana, Twi/ Akan. Adowa consists of a series of 10 lead hand drum parts which interface in a complex polyrhythmic call and response.
A Kpanlogo, conga, or djembe drum can all be used for the lead parts.
Prerequisite: It is recommended that you've taken an LFS African Drum class or have previous experience with African or Diasporic polyrhythms. The hand drum and support parts will be taught at a relatively fast pace.
