Josh Graves's pioneering dobro work with Flatt and Scruggs in the 1950s set a template for bluegrass dobro playing that still stands today. Uncle Josh combined an aggressive right-hand attack with a deep knowledge of the blues to create a dobro style that has influenced and inspired generations of players.
In this class, we will learn eight instrumentals as played by Josh as well as backup techniques and licks that Josh employed. Many of these songs were written by Josh Graves and are classics of the bluegrass dobro repertoire.
This is an intermediate class. Completion of Dobro 1, or, equivalent experience playing dobro, basic knowledge of open G tuning (GBDGBD), bar technique, and use of finger picks is recommended for this course.
Make sure to bring your instrument, a folder, two fingerpicks, a thumb pick, a dobro bar, and a dobro capo.
