Carter Scratch Guitar
Learn the Carter Scratch with Cheyenne Mize
This class will meet online - an invitation to a recurring Zoom meeting will be included in the orientation email sent upon checkout.
With roots in blues fingerpicking and banjo frailing, Maybelle Carter had a unique style that combined both rhythm and lead guitar playing. Maybelle’s style is one of the most influential and emulated styles in all of country, bluegrass, old-time, and folk music, and is super fun to play! This online class will introduce the basics of the “Carter scratch” technique, while exploring the Carter Family repertoire both well- and lesser-known. If you play bluegrass or old-time and are tired of the same old “boom chuck,” this is the class for you!

Alternating-bass accompaniment on basic guitar chords
How to incorporate melody into alternating-bass accompaniment
