Life and Music of Hazel Dickens - Ensemble
The Life and Music of Hazel Dickens with Jenny Morse
Join us for this ensemble class as we explore the life and music of Hazel Dickens: singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, activist, and IBMA Hall of Fame inductee. Hazel's music championed women's voices, the working class, and union action. Her powerful, gritty sound shows that a voice doesn't have to be traditionally "pretty" to shine through. We will supplement our discussion with (optional) readings and videos outside of class and, most importantly, we will make music together.
All fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, dulcimer, and bass players welcome. Students will need to know and be able to transition easily between basic chords on their instrument. Completion of a Folk School intermediate instrument class a bonus.
Please specify your instrument in the notes.
Open to ages 11 and up.
