Oldtime/Clawhammer Banjo 2
Oldtime/Clawhammer Banjo 2 with Jesse Wells
This class will meet online - an invitation to a recurring Zoom meeting will be included in the orientation email sent upon checkout.
With roots in Africa as well the American South, oldtime/clawhammer style banjo combines rhythm and melody to create a sound perfect for the back porch or for playing in a string band.
This class is intended for students who have completed oldtime/clawhammer 1 and wish to build on their foundational skills. Experienced beginners who are comfortable with the right-hand clawhammer stroke and with easy chord changes are also welcome.
This class will provide instruction through playing by ear and with tabs for new, easy-to-play tunes to expand your clawhammer tune list. Tunes may be old-time, folk songs, modern singer-songwriter, etc., depending on the interests of those in the class. We will focus on open-G tuning (gDGBD) initially, but will also explore other common tunings, depending on the interests of those in the class.
