This camp is for kids who love to sing and who want to explore the full capabilities of their voice while connecting with other music-loving kids!   Campers will learn songs from various world folk traditions and explore their own unique voices through improvisation, songwriting, musical games, movement, and mindfulness.  We will explore musical concepts, including rounds, a capella, chants, songwriting, harmony singing and singing as a choir,  Kentucky (play party) songs, vocal improvisation, instrumental play, world music, mindfulness, movement, music and emotions, and basic music theory. 

At the end of the week, campers will share what they’ve learned with their caregivers at our camper showcase!

Daily Schedule

9:00-9:30am - Rolling Check In/Welcome Activities

9:30 - 10am - Camp Gathering

10:00-11:00am - Class 1/snack

11:00-12:00pm - Class 2

12:00-1:00pm - Lunch & Outdoor Play

1:00-2:00pm - Class 3

2:00-3:00pm - Class 4/snack

3:00-3:30pm - Rolling Pick Up: Games/Art/Practice

 

Singing Camp for Kids will be split into two age groups, with a maximum of eight students who will be entering 1st and 2nd graders and twelve students who will be entering grades 3rd through 7th. Please select your child's age range above before adding this camp to the cart.

Camp Times & Location

All Louisville Folk School camps take place in Louisville, Kentucky at the historic Peterson Dumesnil House, 301 S Peterson Ave, Louisville, KY 40206.

Pick Up & Drop Off

This is a closed campus camp. We require that you sign your child in & out at the check-in table everyday with a staff member. Drop off is rolling, so if your camper needs a little extra sleep one day, they won’t miss crucial activities. We do not provide before care or after care outside of the rolling drop off and pick up times. 

For the full day camps, students may be picked up from camp starting at 3pm and as late as 3:30pm. During the 3-3:30pm timeframe students will have the option to participate in outdoor games, individual practice time, group jams, and art activities.

For the half day camp (Hogfiddles & Wingdings), students may be picked up from camp starting at 12:30pm and as late as 1pm. During the 12:15-1pm timeframe, students will have the option to participate in outdoor games, individual practice time, group jams, and art activities.

Food

For the full day camps, please pack two snacks for your student each day. Snack time occurs twice each day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon.

For the half day camp, please pack one snack for your student each day.

All campers should pack a bag lunch every day of camp, and will eat lunch around 12:00 pm. Keep in mind campers won’t have access to a microwave, so pack ready to eat foods and utensils if needed. There is no refrigeration available.

What to Bring

Campers will be outside for parts of the day, weather permitting. Please apply sunscreen in the morning and pack extra for them to apply as needed.

Final Performance

The final performance will take place on the last day of camp (Friday). Final pick-up will happen immediately following the concert. The concert will take place outdoors, weather permitting.

 Refund Policy 

Individuals who wish to alter or cancel their registration in any camp must notify LFS in writing, no less than four weeks prior to the date of the camp. We will refund 80% of the camp fee upon receipt of a written cancellation. There will be no refunds for cancellations made less than 4 weeks prior to the camp date.  We will adhere to our 4-week cancellation policy, with the exception being if LFS has to cancel due to a case of COVID-19, or if the Governor or CDC advises us to close.
