Instructor: Andrew Taylor

Andrew Taylor brings a lifelong passion for fiddle and traditional music to his teaching at the Louisville Folk School. Classically trained in the Suzuki method from an early age, Andrew grew up in Berea, KY, surrounded by the vibrant sounds of fiddle and dance traditions. His love for folk music deepened in high school when he began playing for contra dances and performing with the Berea Festival Dancers. While at Berea College, he joined the Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble, an experience that broadened his horizons and took him overseas to share the joy of American roots music.

Now based in Lexington, Andrew is an active performer, playing Cajun, contra dance, and bluegrass music with several groups, including T’n’T (Taylor's and Turinos), the jam-grass band Dark Moon Hollow, and Tyler Mainard & Stateline. He has also performed with contra dance bands such as The Ripples and The Big Four, bringing his versatile style to each ensemble.

With deep roots in the Midwestern contra dance tradition, Andrew believes in the power of stylistic diversity as a tool for learning and appreciating the fiddle’s unique voice. His teaching approach emphasizes learning by ear, rhythm, and connecting to the vast world of traditional music—inviting students of all backgrounds to discover the joy and depth of fiddle playing.
