Instructor: Ella Rennekamp

Ella Rennekamp is the Louisville Folk School's administrative assistant and the fiddle instructor for our String Band Program at the Waldorf School of Louisville. Ella is a fiddler from Oldham County who now lives in Louisville. She began her fiddling career immersed in Kentucky old-time music at Cowan Creek Mountain Music School. Ella holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from New College of Florida and is on the board of the local community arts center, the Chapel of St Philip Neri. Currently, she trains with John Harrod and the Louisville Folk School. She is passionate about Kentucky's rich music tradition and preserving the stories and regional dynamics of Kentucky fiddling. Also a writer, Ella is interested in how the fiddle can function similarly to poetry in its ability to express feelings and experiences that plain language cannot.
