Advice on Instruments and Practicing

The goal of our instrument classes is always to enjoy playing the instrument you are learning, and practicing regularly will improve your playing and make playing more enjoyable. We recommend beginning students practice 15-30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Try not to skip two days in a row because it can easily lead to 3, 4, or more days skipped! You will be amazed at the progress you make when you commit even this short amount of time to your daily routine.

In order to practice 5 days a week, you will need to have access to your own instrument. You don't have to have an expensive instrument to learn to play, but it does need to be properly adjusted to play easily. Often when paying for a starter instrument, part of the price you are paying is for these adjustment to the playability. We caution students from buying instruments from online stores whose prices seem to be too good to be true - these instruments often come without getting those crucial final adjustments.

Your best bet is to buy or rent an instrument from a reputable and preferably a local music store. The relationship you build with your local instrument shop will come in handy!
