Blues Ensemble with Jake Groves
Get together and play the blues! In this ensemble, students will explore classic blues songs while learning to play together as a band. We'll work on rhythm, accompaniment, improvisation, and the musical interplay that makes the blues so much fun to play.
Repertoire will include classics like "The Thrill Is Gone," "I'm a Man," "Smokestack Lightnin'," and many more.
Guitarists, harmonica players, bassists, keyboard players, and other instrumentalists are welcome! Whether you're holding down the rhythm, playing a melody, or taking a solo, you'll have the opportunity to develop your skills while making music with others.
Prerequisites: Students should have basic proficiency on their instrument and be comfortable keeping time and playing with others. Guitarists should know basic chords and be able to play them in different keys. Bassists should be comfortable playing basic bass lines and finding notes by name. Keyboard players can use the keyboard already in the classroom. Harmonica players should bring a C diatonic harmonica. Bending and other advanced harmonica techniques are not required.
This is an adult class open to students aged 13 and up.
