Django Jazz Guitar with Ken Allday
This course is all about the Legendary Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. Last semester was an introductory course where we learned the basics of Django style guitar. This semester will have a similar approach but we will cover new material. After all Django wrote nearly 100 compositions during his short life and played countless compositions written by others.
We will be discussing topics such as:
- Picking Technique
- Django style rhythm guitar and the chords we use
- Discuss and analyze a django solo note by note
- Exercises to help you take what you learn from Django and apply the ideas in an improvisational setting.
We previously discussed Djangos solo on the tune ‘Honeysuckle Rose’ learning the solo note by note. We broke down the individual licks of the solo and used a digital tab application to slow down the audio and watch the tabs happen in real time. This is a great tool for learning all kinds of music and we will be using it.
Most importantly last semester was full of interesting conversations about music, coffee, guitars, picks, strings, and all other music nerd related topics. All are welcome to attend this class, hope to see you there.
Prerequisite: Guitar 3 or teacher approval
This is an adult class open to students aged 13 and up.
