Dulcimer Beyond D

In this class, we’ll explore tunes often played at old-time and bluegrass jams in the Keys of G and A. You'll gain a greater understanding of how to play melodies and backup chords on your dulcimer with and without a capo in these two keys. We’ll explore how to play variations of these melodies as you work on flat-picking, rhythmic strumming and fretting techniques. Tunes will be presented by ear in class, and dulcimer tab and videos will be provided for at-home practice. 

Prerequisites:

This class is for dulcimer players who have completed Dulcimer 1 and at least one session of Dulcimer 2 or have mastered similar skills. Students should be familiar with the basic D, A, and G chord positions in D-A-d Tuning, be able to keep a steady strum, and be able to play several tunes in the Key of D. A mountain dulcimer capo will be needed for this class, and can be purchased from the instructor. 

This is an adult class open to students aged 14 and up.
