Mountain Polyphony Choir

It seems to be that where there are large mountains, there just might be a hugely beautiful tradition of music with multi-part harmonies. In this class, we will arrange by parts to learn songs from Bulgaria (Balkans), Georgia (Caucasus), Ukraine (Carpathians), and maybe a song or two from the Appalachian region as well! Most of these musics feature a unique vocal technique where all voices weave together in the same octave, meaning low voices are near the top of their range and high voices are near the bottom of theirs. Most music will be learned by ear, but some familiarity with reading music could be helpful. I founded a similar choir in 2020, which we revamped again in 2023 under this same name. This class will be unique in that we will study and refine 8-10 songs in preparation for a full concert at the end of our 8 weeks. All voices and ages are welcome!
