This class will meet in-person on: 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/23, and 12/14

Calling all songsters!  My Pet Song is an ongoing class focusing on ear training, melodic mutation, harmonic inventions, and rhythmic empathy by focusing on one single jazz standard for eight weeks.  We start by learning the simplest version we can, then unfold through variations and complications as the weeks continue.  Open to singers and players of all chromatic instruments, this class will touch on the nashville number system, shell chord construction and upper extensions (the weird sounds that make jazz so brain ticklish), song form, phrasing, how to play in a group, and most of all, musicality!  If you've listened to jazz before and wondered, "What the heck are they doing?"  You may enjoy coming along for a trip through seventh chords and moving tonal centers in a slow, supportive, and welcoming environment.  

Due to the instructor's prolific touring schedule, five of of the classes will be in person, and the other three will be shared as full-length videos recorded to address the specific needs of the group as it progresses.

This is an adult class open to students aged 13 and up.
