Singing Appalachian Gospel Songs with Julia Purcell
In this class, we will learn and sing Appalachian Spirituals. The focus of this class will be on communal, joyous, a cappella singing. Classes will consist of vocal warm-ups, vocal instruction, listening to recordings, learning melodies and harmonies, and small & large ensemble singing. Over the 8 weeks, students will learn eight songs.
This class will draw heavily from the album Sharon Mountain Harmony: A Golden Ring of Gospel.
This class is designed for those who have previous experience singing and are comfortable singing in a small group, dyads, and sometimes solo.
This is an adult class open to students aged 15 and up. All genders welcome.
