The Big Game: Turning Standards Inside Out with Thomas Deakin
Note: there will be no class on Tuesday, June 24th
Intros, outros, shell chords, vamps, ones and fives, flat sevens, oh my! Join in for an evening a week of putting it all together, together. This offering is for anyone who has taken at least one of my classes in the past, or is already used to analyzing/dissecting/playing jazz chord progressions. I will be assuming a basic level of fluency, including knowing all the notes of your instrument, how to construct four-note minor/major chords, and the makeup of major scales. The focus will be on playing music in a small group setting and exploring the other, bigger, more mysterious notes of this thing we call music. Dynamics, breathing, listening, taking and making space, being polite, supporting others, and being silent. If this sounds interesting, but you have yet to take a class with me, contact me directly, or consider my other summer class called Furthering the Fundamentals.
This is an adult class open to students aged 13 and up.
