note: this class begins on March 25th!
As the ice begins to melt and our world starts to green up again, could it be the perfect time to immerse yourself in a bit of Irish culture?
This class will cover some perennial favorite tunes and songs of Ireland, from some of our oldest gems to more modern compositions. If you like to sing, can play basic chords, and/or pick out a melody line on your instrument, this is a great place to encounter, experiment, and engage with the lush musical landscape of Ireland and her influence on the wider world.
I'm a fiddler myself, having loved Irish music all my life, and welcome all instruments that would like to learn some Irish melodies, and would also really love to have some guitarists and singers join us! I'll assume you know how to find notes/melodies on your instrument as a prerequisite, so the class can be focused primarily on our song/tune content as opposed to playing instruction, although we will definitely talk about styling, ornaments, and phrasing.
Class goals:
-learning various tune types by ear (jigs, reels, and beyond!)
-arranging tune sets
-singing and playing Irish songs
This is an adult class open to students aged 13 and up.
