Harmony Singing by Ear: Songs of Love and Heartbreak with Julia Purcell

In this workshop, you will:

participate in ear-training exercises and tricks to help find harmony notes
learn to identify and sing various intervals - two and three-note combinations
learn how to choose specific harmony notes that add color and feeling to a song
learn how to harmonize in major, minor and modal harmonic frameworks
learn how to find and hold your part while blending with other voices
gain a whole new repertoire of songs

We will spend the first half of the workshop on vocal exercises and learning a small repertoire of harmony-rich songs. In the second half, we will break into smaller groups—dyads and triads—to try out more nuanced harmony techniques. The instructor will provide individualized instruction, as needed, to the break-out groups. Participants will be invited to share/perform a song at the end. If you play an instrument, you are welcome to bring it.

This workshop is appropriate for individuals 15 years and up, and those who feel comfortable learning and singing by ear.
