a workshop to learn the “words” to some of your favorite old-time tunes
"I went out with the Alabama gal, Alabama gal, Alabama gal! I went out with the Alabama gal, all on a Saturday evenin’!” If you’ve always wanted to pipe up with a fun sung verse during a great tune at an old-time jam, this workshop is for you. Join Julia and Jannell to practice “singing the tunes!” Folks have been singing, whistling, lilting, vocalizing, and making up words to tunes for ages– it’s never too late to join in this wonderful, accessible vocal tradition.
In this workshop, we'll:
- Learn to sing the words to some favorite old-time tunes like "Cindy," "June Apple," and more!

Demystify:
- WHEN do I sing?
- WHAT do I sing?
- WHAT do I play while people are singing?
If there’s time and interest, we might also make up our own words to a tune, or learn a bonus tune!
Prerequisite:
This workshop will work best for folks who have a few old-time tunes on board and are comfortable playing along with a group. All instruments are welcome, as well as folks who’d just like to bring their voices and sing along!
This workshop is appropriate for individuals 15 years and up
